Located in Yinnar, in the picturesque pastoral hinterland of South-West Gippsland, The Max Biocare Research Park embodies all our guiding principles of evidence-based, naturally-inspired, sustainable and practical innovation, all in the one location.

Our History

Max Biocare Institute (MBCI) was born from Max Biocare’s firm belief that science and an evidence-based approach are the foundation of effective healthcare and wellbeing, in their dedication to design and develop naturally derived health and nutrition products for better health, wellness and beauty.

We are dedicated to helping people understand the science behind how ingredients and products work, and not just taking our word for it.

Our fundamentals are very similar to principles used in pharmaceutical and medical practice.


Max Biocare Research Parks

Max Biocare Research Parks’ facilities provide an amazing platform and opportunities for us to go back to basics and drive our own research and development processes. This enables us to apply and maintain our own high standards of quality through every step along the way.

Yinnar Eco Center

Max Biocare Research Park, nestled in the picturesque region of South-West Gippsland in Yinnar, stands as a testament to our commitment to innovative and practical use of natural ingredients and products. This facility is a physical embodiment of our core values, which include innovation, research, development, quality assurance, adherence to ethical practices, and a strong focus on sustainability.

We are fortunate to have a wealth of natural resources, which we steward with a sustainable approach. This includes our integrated water storage systems, covering over 4500m2 in surface area, capturing the plentiful rainfall of Gippsland. The park is also a haven for a vast array of medicinal plants, counting thousands of both indigenous and exotic species. Additionally, it houses over 50 varieties of fruit trees along with a range of re-established local trees and shrubs. The flourishing indigenous wildlife in the park is a clear indicator of the land’s health and vitality.

Our extensive floral varieties at the Yinnar site ensure year-round blooming, providing a perfect environment for our growing bee population. These bees play a crucial role in our ecosystem, busily collecting nectar and pollen which contribute to the production of our unique bee-derived products, including our specialty Herbal Honey.

Mar-Nuka Bay Center

The Max Biocare Research Park at Mar-Nuka Bay, situated in Langsborough in Southern Gippsland, serves as a protected conservation area, particularly rich in native Manuka tea trees (Leptospermum scoparium). This area is dedicated to supporting our honeybee population.

Located near the coast, this site boasts high Strategic Biodiversity Values, scoring 91-100, which places it among the top-rated areas for biodiversity in Victoria.

Additionally, the site is surrounded by large state government reserves and is under a heritage inventory that restricts land development. This ensures a constant and rich supply of natural forage for our bees from a diverse range of native plants, with a special emphasis on Manuka and Banksia species.

The mysterious world of mycology – this is the study of mushrooms, which has its own specific group in between plants and animals. While we best know them as a source of food and nutrition, many varieties are have been used in traditional medicines for centuries. They can be used as ingredients in functional foods, medicines and personal care products for both humans and animals.

Our commitment to a sustainable future  starts with our hands and our research. We take great care to protect the land and resources that we work with, ensuring that we control every step in the processes that we put in place.

Nurseries and labs

We carefully germinate and nurture botanical species in our controlled environment facilities, so that we can closely monitor growth conditions and tailor them to our desired purposes.

Dedicated lab space will provide an opportunity for us to experiment with growing conditions, extraction techniques and analysis to achieve the right balance of plant actives and effectiveness.

Some of the specialty species that we are focusing on including a range of medicinal herbs and mushrooms, many of which have a long history of use in traditional medicines and are still in use today.

Plantations

Our 4.5-hectare property provides ample space to be flexible enough for us to expand the production of the botanical species that we are interested in growing and harvesting.

West Gippsland’s temperate climate provides naturally good growing conditions. But we are increasingly conscious of the impact that climate change is having on the region, so we also focus on plant species with an ability to adapt to range of conditions.

Bee farm

Encouraging bee populations to grow and thrive is doing a small bit to help the environment. 

Bee populations around Australia have been impacted over past decades as a result of climate change and endemic pests, including Varroa mites. This is so unfortunate because bees play such a critical role in pollenating plants used for food and medicines, but also the naturally occurring wild flora. This is critical to help it restore itself, especially after damaging events like bushfires and logging deforestation. 

We are hosting honeybee broods as part of our initiatives to study bee biology and better understand how we can protect it.

Bee products & materials

Bees have perfected the fine art of harnessing nature’s floral and plant resources, to make a wide variety of products from nectar, pollen, tree sap and mushroom roots. These products are subsequently used to feed and protect the colony and help keep the bees healthy. 

We are actively researching the composition of bee products, to understand what benefits they may offer to human health, nutrition, and well-being throughout all stages of life. 

Beekeeping research & innovation

The quality of bee products is only as good as the health of the bee colony. There are lots of different factors that affect bee health, plant biodiversity, seasonal variation, availability of food resources and keeping control of parasites, infections, pesticides, pollutants and other environmental factors.  

We are interested in how all of these factors interplay, and are investigating how to improve beekeeping practices to ensure that we can keep bees healthy for future generations, and for future food security.  

Our research

Bees have perfected the fine art of harnessing nature’s floral and plant resources, to make products from nectar and pollen that are used to support and protect their brood. We are actively researching the composition of these products, to understand what benefits they may have to human health and nutrition.

Garden

Max Biocare Research Parks are blessed to have on location an established and partially forested and landscaped botanical garden that sets the perfect backdrop for our research.

We also maintain a growing collection of thousands of beautiful flowering perennials and native plants, adding to the local biodiversity, which is not only great to admire, but improves the health of local pollinating insects.


Environmental restoration and biodiversity

Intensive farming practices around the globe are gradually damaging the native biodiversity of plant species, which is harming the environment and contributing to problems such as climate change, land degradation and compromised health of plant pollinators.

At Max Biocare Research Parks, a comprehensive selection of plants from all over the world has been established with a view to preserving biodiversity. By nurturing threatened or rare and heirloom plant species, we are playing a small but important part in future-proofing the environment globally.

The Park also focuses on native revegetation, by propagating local native species that were once abundant before land use changed to farming and pastures.
